What is Greendrinks?
The Basics
Portland Greendrinks is part of the international Greendrinks network — an informal, volunteer-managed social networking group built around a common interest in the natural environment.
Events on the second Tuesday of every month, starting at 5:30 pm.
The goal of Greendrinks is pretty simple: good times shared among people working in, or interested in, environmental and sustainability issues. Portland Greendrinks is a project of the Maine-based non-profit, started by Elliott May in 2007/2008.
"There are lots of benefits to greendrinks; they are hard to quantify, but when you have seen people come and make new links and learn and argue and set up new schemes and get new jobs, etc., it is a good feeling."
- Founder Edwin Datschefski
Our Mission
Portland Greendrinks is dedicated to creating a more environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable community by supporting local organizations, businesses, and green initiatives.
Greendrinks International
What began in 1989 in a pub in Northern London has now spread to over 488 cities in 49 countries — and it’s still growing! Greendrinks brings together a lively mix of people from all walks of life: academics, NGOs, local businesses, and government agencies. The goal is to create an organic, self-organizing network where everyone is welcome. It’s a great way to catch up with people you already know, as well as an opportunity to meet new people and make new connections. These events are very simple and unstructured, but many people have found employment, made friends, developed new ideas, done deals, and had their own share of “aha” moments.
